What Are PRP Injections?
PRP is short for Platelet-Rich Plasma. PRP injections are a type of facial rejuvenation treatment used to help improve the look of aging skin. This platelet-rich plasma is made by taking a blood sample from the donor, containing red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets that release growth factors. These growth factors, when injected into the face, stimulate collagen production, providing an anti-aging effect on the facial appearance. We use PRP injections for the tear trough region and even sometimes for hair growth.
What Are The Benefits Of PRP For Treating The Under Eye Area?
PRP injections in the under-eye area are an excellent treatment for addressing fine lines and wrinkles in this region for optimum rejuvenation. PRP contains growth factors that stimulate collagen production when injected into the skin. By stimulating new collagen production, platelet-rich plasma helps tighten loose skin around the eyes to lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while also eliminating bags underneath the eyes.

What Can I Expect During A PRP Treatment?
The injector or medical assistant will draw your blood and spin it down to retrieve the PRP. This process takes about 15 minutes. During this time, we numb the area to be treated with a topical anesthetic. For PRP treatments in the under-eye area, platelet-rich plasma is injected into the skin using a very fine needle or blunt tip cannula to minimize pain. A lot of times, we are able to use filler during your treatment as well to give you the best results in conjunction with PRP. The time needed for PRP under-eye treatments is approximately 45 minutes.
What Results Can Be Expected With PRP Treatments?
You may have some bruising and swelling following the procedure. It is important you follow all aftercare instructions given by your injector. Results with PRP are gradual and you can expect 3-4 treatments. If your treatment was combined with filler, results are more immediate. Your injector will determine what you are a candidate for during your consultation. Results from PRP injections typically last a couple of years with some maintenance yearly.
